Welcome to the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop!
The Literary Giveaway Blog Hop is hosted by Leeswammes at http://leeswammes.wordpress.com/. Between now and Wednesday November 5th, you can hop to 30 different book blogs, all offering one or more giveaways of books or bookish items. All books will be literary (non)fiction or something close to that. Follow the links at the bottom of this post to find the other participating blogs.
My Giveaway THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.
I’m giving away a copy of Karen Joy Fowler’s brilliant, award-winning We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. This compelling and heartbreaking story was a finalist for the Man Booker Prize awarded last month (the winner was Richard Flanagan’s The Narrow Road to the Deep North). You can read my review of Fowler’s unforgettable book here.

First, Bill, I LOVE that you are reading only books by women — love your bio and explanation and belief of women writing literary works (we have many favorite authors in common as well — love Louise Erdrich, and Eowen Ivey’s SNOW CHILD was one of my all-time favorites… Plus many more on your list I’ve read). I just added you to my Feedly list (and tweeted your message). By the way: you would be SO loved by two vocal female authors — contemporary fiction, though not literary — on Twitter who bring attention to the gender gap (more women read, yet fewer are professionally reviewed — Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Weiner).
At any rate, I’ve heard SUCH great things about this book and would be DELIGHTED to win — it’s been on my TBR list since I first learned of it. So nice to learn more about you. We follow one another on Twitter already. Looking forward to your reviews in the coming year as well.

I enjoy the Literary Blog Hop not only because it provides me with a wonderful opportunity to win some great books, but it also provides some great reading suggestions. I really enjoy your blog — it’s one of my favorites. I have you listed on my blogroll! I got to meet Karen Joy Fowler last year and actually received a signed copy of We Are Completely Beside Ourselves, which I lent to another bookseller from my store — never to be seen again.

So glad I stumbled across this hop! I used to devour literature. Loved the classics (and they beat having my middle school library pick out the most boring biographies she had!)
I like your layout on here. It’s clean. Sometimes I go to a blog and can’t find a single thing because everything’s so crowded. It’s like buttons are being hoarded. Then some play audio on opening, which drives me nuts too 😛 If I could give you a suggestion, maybe there’s a better way to manage the menu at the top. Think it just unsettles me because the title is right-justified, then you have these links spread out over the area. Looks unbalanced. Maybe wordpress just doesn’t make many options available unless you can code in html, though.
Have a question for you – did the reading works only by women thing come later in life to you? I’m like you, I gravitate towards female authors. There are some exceptions, but those don’t usually happen unless I want something from Steve Berry or James Rollins. The writing styles between genders are different – they should be, too, given how the genders think differently.

I like that you’ve reviewed some short stories, and I’d be happy to see more of that – so often it seems like they get forgotten.
